Terms of Service
Who we are
Trellis is operated by Michael Bruder, an individual based in Minnesota. When these Terms say "we," "us," or "Trellis," they mean Michael Bruder operating Trellis. You can reach us at support@bruder.is.
What Trellis is
Trellis is an online learning platform for homeschool co-ops. Co-ops use it to run courses, registration, assignments, grading, transcripts, discussions, messages, calendars and class fees.
Who agrees to these Terms
- Co-op admins agree to these Terms for their co-op when they create a co-op or choose a plan.
- Parents and teachers agree when they create an account or accept an invite.
- Students do not accept these Terms themselves. The student's parent or co-op agrees on the student's behalf and is responsible for how the student uses Trellis.
You must be at least 18 to create a co-op or a parent or teacher account.
Students don't need to meet an age minimum to have their own sign-in. A parent or co-op can give a student a sign-in by adding the student's email, and whoever adds it is responsible for that choice and for the student's use of Trellis.
Your account
- Keep your password private and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
- Give accurate information, including the email you sign in with.
- You're responsible for what happens in your account.
Co-op responsibilities
If you run a co-op on Trellis, you agree that:
- You have the right to add the families, teachers and students you add.
- You are responsible for getting any parental consent needed before adding a student or a student's information, including consent required for children under 13, and you'll handle requests from parents about their child's information.
- You'll set and communicate your own co-op policies, including class fees and class-fee refunds.
- You'll use Trellis in line with the law that applies to your co-op.
Acceptable use
Please don't:
- Upload anything illegal, harmful, or that you don't have the right to share.
- Harass, threaten or exploit anyone, especially children.
- Try to get into accounts or data that aren't yours, or interfere with how Trellis works.
- Resell or copy Trellis without our written permission.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
Your content
Your co-op's content, including courses, assignments, submissions, grades, files and messages, belongs to you and your co-op. You give us permission to store, process and display it only so we can run Trellis for you. See our Privacy Policy.
Plans and payment
- Starter is free, for up to 15 active families. No credit card is required.
- Growth is $199 per year, for up to 60 active families.
- Campus is $499 per year, with unlimited active families (subject to fair use).
Paid plans are billed once a year through Stripe and renew automatically each year until you cancel. If a paid plan is cancelled, or a payment still hasn't gone through after we've retried it, your co-op falls back to Starter limits. Your existing families, data and sign-ins all stay as they are. If you have 15 or more active families, you can't add or reactivate a family until you have fewer than 15 or you upgrade. Refunds are covered in our Refund Policy. Prices may change. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice, and a new price applies from your next renewal.
Class fees
Co-ops can charge families class fees through Trellis using Stripe Connect. For class fees, the co-op is the merchant, not Trellis. We aren't a party to those payments, and each co-op's own policy decides refunds and disputes.
Availability and changes
We work hard to keep Trellis running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may add, change or remove features. If we change these Terms in a meaningful way, we'll let co-op admins know before the change takes effect and may ask you to accept the new version.
Ending your use
You can stop using Trellis at any time. We may suspend or end access if these Terms are broken or if we stop offering Trellis.
Trellis doesn't have a self-serve export yet. Within 30 days of cancelling, a co-op admin can email support@bruder.is to ask for a copy of the co-op's data. A co-op on a paid plan needs to cancel the plan before the co-op can be deleted. How we handle deleted data is covered in our Privacy Policy.
Disclaimers and limits
Trellis is provided "as is." As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for indirect or consequential losses. Our total responsibility to you is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota. Any dispute will be handled by the state or federal courts located in Wright County, Minnesota.
Before either side files in court, they'll first email the other describing the issue (you can reach us at support@bruder.is), and we'll both try in good faith to resolve it for 30 days.
